The club has once again been invited to join the Honorary Officers Group(H/O) of the Tembe Elephant Park on a fund-raising weekend at the park’s centrally located Ponweni Camp.
Accommodation – The camp has 5 rustic chalets and enough camp sites to allow a maximum of 20 persons to attend the event, assuming 2 persons per chalet/camp site. The chalets (two rooms) can sleep up to 4 persons as there are 3 beds and a spare mattress in each one together with the necessary bedding. They are most comfortable when occupied by 2 people.
There is an ablution block with gas showers and communal kitchen with fridge and freezer space as well as a 4-burner gas stove. Open air ablutions with a view and supplied by solar panel heated water are also on site. The fridge space is limited so it is recommended that you are fully self-sufficient. Crockery and cutlery are supplied in the kitchen.
The camp is secured by an electric fence powered by solar panels. These also light up the camp kitchen, ablutions and night lights. There is no 220 volt supply. Torches are recommended luggage.
Water is from a borehole and is potable. It is advisable to bring your own as it gives you a choice of source.
General information – The weekend is a self-catering affair except for one night where the H/Os will provide a venison potjie.
There are no stores near the park and the nearest fuel station is some 25 km form the entrance gate. The camp, in turn, is a 45-minute drive from the gate. The game viewing is self-driven and you will be mainly on beach sand tracks . The vehicles consumption statistics will be worse than normal. Only 4 wheel drive vehicles are granted entrance to the park.
The park is a big 5 one with both black and white rhinos.
Pricing – for the weekend
Chalets R1 500 per person unless a single person takes a chalet then R 1 725

Children under 18 are 50% of the above unless a child is the only occupant of a chalet.
